Muath Mubarak is a banker who chose classrooms over corner offices. An author who believes finance should serve people, not exploit them. An educator who has trained 8,000+ professionals across five countries.
I set out to understand it. Two decades later, that curiosity has taken me from the trading floors of Doha to the lecture halls of Colombo, from corporate boardrooms in the UAE to school assemblies in the Maldives. Along the way, I became a Chartered Management Accountant, an MBA graduate of the University of the West of England, and a Fellow of three UK professional bodies.
I’ve held roles at Barwa Bank in Qatar, contributed to Abu Dhabi Commercial Bank’s Islamic window, and led corporate strategy at First Global Academy. Today, I serve as Head of Knowledge Marketing & Financial Inclusion at Amana Bank in Sri Lanka, where I run the country’s most ambitious financial literacy programme.
But here’s what I’ve learned: the most powerful thing you can give someone isn’t money. It’s the understanding of how money works. That’s the work I do. That’s the work I was made for.
Everything I do sits at the intersection of finance, education, and meaning — helping people and organisations build the clarity to act and the conviction to lead.
Sharia-compliant banking, sukuk markets, ethical finance advisory. Training the next generation of Islamic bankers across Sri Lanka, Qatar, UAE, Kuwait, and Maldives.
Explore courses →Making money make sense. From school students to women entrepreneurs, I run workshops and national programmes that turn financial confusion into financial confidence.
Book a session →Two books. A growing body of work. I write to make complex ideas accessible, and urgent ideas impossible to ignore. Because the pen is still mightier.
Read my books →Ideas that challenge the way we think about money, meaning, and what it takes to lead from where you sit.
The Bank of England admits it. Nobel Laureates have warned about it. The IMF has modelled the alternative. Yet the world’s financial system continues to create money from nothing, concentrate wealth at the top, and pass the debt to the next generation. With the clarity of Start With Why and the urgency of Sapiens, this book makes the case that ethical finance is not a niche concern — it is a universal imperative.
Over two decades of teaching across Sri Lanka, the Gulf, and beyond, Muath Mubarak expected to shape futures. He didn’t expect those futures to shape him back. Twenty-one true stories from the people who sat closest to the front — part memoir, part leadership manual, and entirely human. For anyone who has ever said yes before they were ready.
From 500-seat auditoriums to 20-person boardrooms. From Colombo to Doha. I speak about what sits at the intersection of money, meaning, and everyday life.
